The notes are followed by `Tractatus continens doctrinam Astronomicam` (folio 189), verses on the death of Henry, Prince of Wales, in 1612 (folio 199 verso), and `Solutio quorundam problematum ad elementorum explicationem pertinentium` (folio 201).

According to the folio catalogue (F.R.186) the volumes were originally marked ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’.

The description of the manuscripts in the folio catalogue (F.R.186) includes the reference: Jac.5.7.7-10.

The signature 'John Mair, 1725' occurs on one of the front leaves, and the covers are gilt-stamped 'I.M. 1725'.

The lectures may have been delivered by Mair’s regent, Patrick Hardie.

There are three treatises in the volume: 'Metaphysicæ Synopsis' (page 1); 'Pneumatologie Mantissa' (page 53); 'Introductio ad Ethicam' (page 81).

Scope and Contents The original series of notes were written in 1662 by John Barclay, `son to the lady Johnstoune`, probably from the lectures of his Regent, George Gordon, later 1st Earl of Aberdeen. They deal with commentaries on Aristotle, `De Generatione et Corruptione` (page 1); `De Anima` (page 82); `De Caelo` (page 144); and the `Meteoroligica` (page 150); with a short tract on metaphysics (page 162), and some notes on astronomy (page 178).
